Povodom stogodišnjice smrti Stevana Mokranjca Double compact disc Imaginary Museum of Mokranjac’s Works (Institute of Musicology SASA and Radio Belgrade, Belgrade 2014) is prepared by Biljana Milanović as the third album in edition Archives Awakened (Melita Milin ed.). The album is published with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, the Secretariat for Culture of the City of Belgrade and the Serbian Music Author’s Organization – SOKOJ.

In the joint project of digitalisation of the archival recordings, the Institute of Musicology SASA and Radio Belgrade continue their tradition of cooperation with the aim to preserve and present the most valuable recordings of Serbian music, which are kept in the Radio Belgrade Phono-archive. With this new album the publishers joint in the centennial commemoration of the death of Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac and the celebration of the ninetieth anniversary of Radio Belgrade.

The album contains digitalised archive recordings of Mokranjac’s secular choral music that were produced during the second half of the 20th century. A total of twenty works – fifteen garlands, Coastal Tunes, Goatherd, Two Folk Songs from the 16th Century, Mekam and By Moonlight – is provided in anthological interpretations of the Radio Television Belgrade Choir (today Radio Television of Serbia Choir) and its conductors Mihailo Vukdragović, Milan Bajšanski, Borivoje Simić, Zlatan Vauda and Mladen Jagušt. This ensemble and its conductors played a pivotal role in nurturing the performing tradition of Mokranjac’s opus. Thus, they contributed to the strengthening of the concept of national musical classics, grounded in the accomplishments of the most famous Serbian composer. Hence the title of the album, Imaginary Museum of Mokranjac’s Works, symbolically points exactly to those interpretative dimensions of their performances.

The extensive booklet in Serbian and English, which is included in the edition, presents the study on performing tradition of Mokranjac’s music, texts about the composer, conductors and the choir, analytical comments about the compositions as well as lyrics of all works.
